Stephen McCollum

Stephen graduated from Hartford City High School in 1965. His mother, Helen, was in the HCHS Class of ’38. His late father, Howard, was the developer of the Hillcrest Addition on Highway 26 East and Blackford County Sheriff (1970-76). Although now living in North Carolina, he is grateful to have the opportunity to share positive news about his home town.

Kyli Penrod

Kyli is a senior at Ball State majoring in Entrepreneurship. She’s serving as the secretary for the Hartford City Chamber of Commerce. Kyli enjoys spending time outdoors, reading or taking her pup on walks. She’s been in love with writing since grade school. Kyli wrote for for the Blackford High School newspaper, and she now writes online blog posts in her free time. Kyli’s happy to be writing positive Blackford stories.

Josselyn Schick

Josselyn is a freshman at Ball State University. She graduated from Blackford High School in 2019, and she plans to study Music Media Productions. Josselyn was an active member in yearbook and newspaper during high school. She has written articles for the Voice of Blackford County. In her free time, Josselyn enjoys playing her flute. She is now living in Muncie, but Josselyn still loves writing articles featuring the town she knows so well.

Joan Shrader

Joan grew up in Jay County, graduating from Portland High School and Taylor University, where she majored in Music Education. She received her Master of Arts degree from Ball State University. She has taught elementary music, was a job coach for the Special Education Department at BHS, and retired from Navient Corporation where she was on the email and live chat team. She is married to Gary Shrader and has 3 grown children: Shelbie Markley, Shanelle Hayes, and Levi Shrader. Now that she is retired she enjoys practicing the piano, gardening, and reading, among other activities. Joan loves her community and hopes to spread the good news about her home.

Bailey Cline

Bailey is a senior at Ball State University studying journalism and telecommunications. In the past, Bailey served as Editor-in-Chief of the Blackford High School newspaper, Bruinformer, for two years. She graduated BHS in 2016 as salutatorian of her class and served as Miss Blackford County for two years. Bailey started her college experience at Indiana University as an Ernie Pyle Scholar. She wrote for the Indiana Daily Student as a beat reporter. After a semester, though, she realized Bloomington just wasn’t home. Bailey listened to her heart and decided to commute from Hartford City to the Marion Ivy Tech Campus. From fall 2017 to spring 2018, Bailey acted as Recording Officer for the Marion Campus’ chapter of Phi Theta Kappa. While in office, she helped create educational videos and event advertisements for the honor society, school, and community. Bailey earned her associate’s degree in General Studies from Ivy Tech in 2018, and she hopes to finish her bachelor’s degree at BSU in 2020. She has written articles and taken pictures for both the Montpelier Weekly and Hartford City News Times. Bailey’s excited to be editing and posting news content to highlight her hometown.
